I served as a police officer in Indiana from 1989 to 2008, enjoying a fulfilling career that spanned nearly 20 years. I first met Dr. Michael Layne when he joined a Southeastern Indiana police department. Throughout my career, I worked in various roles including Jail Officer, Dispatcher, Reserve Deputy, Deputy Sheriff, and Patrol Officer across three local departments. I was proud to be assigned to our county's first K-9 Division and its first SWAT team. I also became certified as an instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, in addition to being a state-certified EMT and firefighter. I was a dedicated and trusted law enforcement officer.
In June 2008, I faced a life-altering accusation of taking $154 in cash during a call I was on. This allegation arose after I reported witnessing a theft of evidence by a captain in my department. Unfortunately, my department turned its back on me, despite the trust we had built over the years. I was charged and convicted of theft and official misconduct, both felonies.
During this challenging time, Dr. Layne reached out to check on me and see how I was doing. Initially, I hesitated to seek counseling due to the "police officer mentality." However, after spending a few hours with Dr. Layne, my perspective changed completely. He opened up new possibilities for me at a time when I had lost my career, my marriage, and a community that I had thought of as family.
Dr. Layne not only guided me through the mental and emotional aftermath of my circumstances but also became a great friend and part of my extended family. In May 2010, he officiated the marriage of my wife Keri and me, and I have kept in touch with him ever since. When life presented me with my greatest challenges, I truly believe that God sent me
Dr. Michael Layne.
I highly recommend Dr. Layne to anyone dealing with the stresses associated with law enforcement. He is exceptionally knowledgeable and professional, and I believe he is a valuable resource for officers in need. I strongly recommend CopCare911 to officers.
